Karnick collects 2 as Cochrane knocks off Kirkland Lake
KIRKLAND LAKE, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch got a pair of goals from Haiden Karnick to help them defeat the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 5-3 in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Sunday evening at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex.
Darian Harris staked the Crunch to the early lead as he connected just 46 seconds aft the opening face-off.
Milliam Mizuik got one back while the Gold Miners were on the power play at 6:14.
Braeden Cross collected his 28th of the season at 11:31 as Cochrane took a 2-1 lead after one period.
Tallies 17 seconds apart in the middle frame from Brandon McReynolds and Karkick added to the Crunch cushion while Ashton Amaya got one back for Kirkland Lake while they were on a man advantage.
Karnick made it 5-2 late before Max Cavallini picked up his first NOJHL goal at 7:43 to move in the third to wrap things up.
Shots on goal in the contest favoured Cochrane by a 48-31 count with Leighton Williams picking up the win and Ride Gerads suffering the loss.
