COCHRANE, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch collected two goals and an assist from Austin Stauffer along with a shutout from Shayne Battler in aiding in a 4-0 shutout of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League affair Friday at Tim Horton Event Centre.
Stauffer started the scoring 3:50 into the contest with the eventual game-winner.
He then another near the same point of the middle stanza to put the home side up by two.
The Cochrane added another 34 seconds into the final frame on Kyle Herbster’s 16th tally of the season.
Clay Ellerbrock finished off the scoring with 3:21 to go as the Crunch cruised to the win.
Battler only had to face 10 shots in registering his first NOJHL shutout.
Ryan Winter meanwhile faced 35 attempts in defeat for the Gold Miners.
A reminder that Cochrane’s contest Saturday vs. the league-leading Powassan Voodoos will be held at Jus Jordan Arena in Iroquois Falls and features a 7:30 p.m. start.
