FRENCH RIVER – The Cochrane Crunch picked up a couple of goals, including the game-winner, from Alex Brisson to help their side sink the French River Rapids 7-2 Sunday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League match-up at Noelville Arena.
Austin Stauffer sent the Crunch on their way with a shorthanded marker four and a half minutes into the contest while teammate Kyle Herbster added one at even strength at 7:56 to put the visitors up by a pair early.
Jacob Romano got one back via the power play for French River at 12:18 only to see Brisson notch the eventual difference maker during a Cochrane man advantage before the first period was complete.
Brisson added his second of the game during a power play in the middle stanza before Austin Caza made 5-1 Crunch after 40 minutes.
Stephen Calisti cut into the deficit with fourth of the campaign 8:23 into the final frame before Caleb Dolman connected with Cochrane up two men to make it 6-2.
Crunch affiliate Kurtis Rogers was then credited with the final tally in the late going to finish scoring.
Stauffer and Connor Lovie had two assists apiece for the guests.
Shayne Battler made 21 saves to post the win for Cochrane.
Josh Barrett started for French River and suffered the loss allowing five on 33 shots in two periods of work with Andrew Rocha stopping 16 of 18 in relief.
