COCHRANE, Ont. – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League has announced that tonight’s contest between the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners and Cochrane Crunch at Tim Horton Events Centre has been postponed.
The postponement comes about after it was learned that a player on one of the teams inadvertently came in close contact with someone who was displaying COVID-19 symptoms.
Thus out of an extreme abundance of caution, the league made the decision to call off this evening’s game.
“To avoid a potential situation, it was determined that postponing tonight’s match-up was the best and safest course of action,” stated NOJHL commissioner Robert Mazzuca.
“Everyone involved with the league has done a tremendous job up to this point, with over 40 regular season games having already been completed, so we’re doing the right thing by not playing tonight,” added Mazzuca.
The NOJHL thanks everyone for their continued cooperation, diligence and understanding during these unprecedented times and wishes each and all a safe and happy holiday season.
Further schedule updates for games in 2021 will be released by the league once they are finalized.
