SUDBURY, Ont. – Lucas Signoretti scored four times as part a 7-1 victory by the Espanola Paper Kings versus the Iroquois Falls Storm Wednesday in Day 2 action of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League Showcase at Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex.
Needing only 81 seconds to get on the board, Espanola’s Grant Booth picked off a play inside the Iroquois Falls blueline, then made a couple of crafty moves while skating in and whipping a low shot into the bottom-right corner on Storm starter Connor Dunham-Fox.
The Paper Kings tacked on another later in the frame, after breaking out of their own zone in transition, and saw Jack Lynes send Signoretti driving to the net from the right side, where he went in and put one by Dunham-Fox.
It was more from Signoretti in the second stanza as he found himself in an opportune area of the ice that helped him blast in a shot after securing a bouncing puck from in close.
He then put his speed on display during a power play by flying through the Iroquois Falls defence, and while being taken down on a delayed penalty call, fired a shot into the bottom right corner.
Getting one back right off the draw, the Storm’s Allan Watt whipped in his first NOJHL goal from the top of the right circle past a screened Andrew Gaulton in the Espanola net.
Continuing his impressive effort in the third, Signoretti notched his fourth of the day, during a two-man advantage, as he took a Spencer Horgan pass then buried it, blocker side, at 8:30.
Espanola then capped off the one-sided result in the late going when Kyle den Ouden clicked while his side was up a skater as he finished off the scoring by snapping one in while coming down the right wing.
Picking up player of the game honours were Logan Chichelli for the winners and Watt for Iroquois Falls.
The win sees the Paper Kings move to 7-3-0-0 on the season while the Storm slipped to 4-6-0-0 in defeat.
