IROQUOIS FALLS, Ont. – Riding the strength of three consecutive Brant Romaniuk second-period goals, in under a 14-minute span, powered the Timmins Rock to a 6-2 triumph over the Iroquois Falls Storm Sunday afternoon in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League play at Jus Jordan Arena.
It was the visiting Rock who began the scoring just over seven minutes in thanks to Diego Da Silva as he banked in a backhand off a Storm defender and past netminder Alex Hall for his 10th tally of the season.
Tying it up with 13 seconds left in the first, off a draw in the Timmins zone, Landon Trethewey slammed in a rebound off a spinning Alexandre St. Pierre chance to pull Iroquois Falls even.
Retaking the lead in the first minute of the middle frame, the Rock pushed a play ahead that allowed Romaniuk to collect a loose puck in the slot and wire it past the outstretched glove of Hall.
It also helped Romaniuk run a consecutive game point streak to seven.
More from Romaniuk while Timmins was down a skater saw him generate a turnover in the Storm end, then wheel around before using a toe drag in the right circle and wiring in his second of the stanza.
Completing his natural hat trick at 14:47, the skilled Rock forward was left alone in front and promptly buried a pass put his way by Lucas Lowe, from behind the goal line, for his team-leading 17th tally.
The home side did get one back less than a minute later when St. Pierre beat Ayden Mullen in the Timmins net with a sharp wrist shot from the left side.
Going back up by three 8:38 into the third, Thomas Beard charged around an Iroquois Falls player while driving into the zone and fired a rising shot from a tight angle that eluded Hall.
They then connected on a man advantage with Matteo Paradiso pumping in a cross-ice pass from Kaeden McArthur to complete the scoring in the contest.
The win raises the Rock’s record to 11-5-0-1 and in defeat, the Storm slip to 8-9-0-2.
