GALLERY: Rock romp over Crunch

TIMMINS, Ont. – An impressive seven-goal first period was more than enough as the Timmins Rock went on to drop the Cochrane Crunch 10-4 Sunday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at McIntyre Arena.

With the Rock sporting a crisp new third jersey and the Crunch wearing their equally solid road attire, it was the hosts who picked up an early power play and didn’t stop from there.

With that man advantage, Timmins clicked 61 seconds into the match-up with Nicholas Frederick burying the rebound in the slot following a shot-block off a Cameron Dutkiewicz attempt from the point.

Dutkiewicz then went bar down with a rising wrister from the right circle to make it 2-0 before Liam Wells flew down the left wing just over a minute later and went upstairs on Cochrane starter Ben DiGiallonardo.

Coming right back off the draw, the visitors got one back moments later with Ethan Ingram tucking one through the pads of the Rock’s Gavin McCarthy.

However, it was all Timmins after that as they scored four times in just over a six-minute-span to take control of the game as Wells, Dylan McElhinny, Daniel Beaupre and Riley Brousseau were all credited with finding the back of the net.

Starting out with an edge to begin the middle stanza, Alex Dionne’s first NOJHL marker 26 seconds in as he was left with a tap-in following a Collin Lapointe attempt from the right circle.

Answering that, Riley Dubois made it 8-2 a couple of shifts later as a pass in front found him where he whipped a shot and beat Michael Nickolau, who had entered to play goal for the Crunch.

The Cochrane power play got them a third tally on the day as Lapointe patiently waited in front before taking a cross-ice pass from Dionne and putting it in.

Up a skater near the midway point of the contest, Tyler Patterson completed some nice puck movement for his sixth goal of the year.

A fourth Cochrane goal came before the second intermission as Liam Boswell ran a modest point-streak to three in succession as he made a nice redirection off a Martin Papineau shot from the left point.

In the final frame, Tyler Schwindt completed a nice skating play by Christopher Engelbert, who wheeled around in the Crunch zone, then dashed to the middle where he fired a shot that was saved, but the Rock captain was there to whip in the rebound for his 20th tally of the season while rounding out the scoring.

In all, 14 Timmins players got on the game sheet, including seven with multi-point affairs.

McCarthy got the win for the Rock, making 27 saves.

As for Cochrane, DeGiallonardo suffered the loss allowing seven against on 17 shots while Nickolau handled 32 of 35 in 40 minutes of relief.
