NOJHL names initial Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the 2016-17 season

SUDBURY – The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League announced Monday that Blind River Beavers defenceman Vincent Robbins along with forwards Kevin Ford of the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners and Konnar Dechaine of the Cochrane Crunch have been named the initial Eastlink TV 3 Stars of the week for the 2016-17 campaign.

VINCENT ROBBINS, (D) BLIND RIVER BEAVERS – Robbins’ NOJHL debut was an impressive one for the Beavers as the 20-year-old from Cambridge, Ont., racked up six assists in two games helping Blind River reel off a pair of opening weekend victories.

He began by setting up four goals, including the game-winner, Friday in the start of a home-and-home vs. Espanola.

The following evening on home ice Robbins dished out two more helpers as the Beavers derailed the Express for a second straight night.

Early into the season Blind River defenceman shares the NOJHL scoring lead with Kirkland Lake’s Ford.

KEVIN FORD, (F) KIRKLAND LAKE GOLD MINERS – Yet another newcomer who made his mark in the league over the weekend was Ford.

The 18-year-old Waunekee, Wis., product paced the Gold Miners with a half dozen points in triumphs over French River and Timmins.

In Kirkland Lake’s home opener Friday against the Rapids, Ford delighted the faithful at the Joe Mavrinac Community Complex with a two-goal, two-assist performance in his regular season debut.

Saturday night the Gold Miners forward tacked on two more markers, including the game-winner, helping his side edge Timmins on the road.

KONNAR DECHAINE, (F) COCHRANE CRUNCH – A third recent NOJHL recruit showed tremendous offensive promise as Cochrane’s Dechaine amassed five points in just two outings.

The 20-year-old forward who hails from Lac la Biche, Alta., started by collecting his first league goal, which proved to be the game-winner as the Crunch clipped Iroquois Falls 4-2 Friday at the Tim Horton Event Centre.

Saturday night he notched a hat trick and picked up an assist in an 8-5 decision over the Eskis at Jus Jordan Arena.

Dechaine is currently tied for the league-lead in goals with four and knotted for third in points with five.
