COCHRANE, Ont. – Levi Johnson had a pair of goals, including the game-winner, to help the Cochrane Crunch skate to a 5-2 decision over the Timmins Rock in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action Friday at Tim Horton Event Centre.
First period play saw Timmins start things off offensively 3:03 into the contest compliments of a Paul Spadafora effort.
Cochrane came back to tie it at 11:05 thanks to Mitchell Booth then went in front two minutes later on Austin Stauffer’s team-leading 28th tally of the season.
It was more Crunch in the second stanza as Johnson scored twice in a 35-second span to put the home side up 4-1 before the period was five minutes in to chase Rock starter Eric Jackson in favour of back-up Tyler Masternak.
Timmins got one back, via the power play, at 17:05 as Jordan Picard brought the visitors to within two entering the final frame.
In the third however, Cochrane restored their three-goal cushion during a two-man advantage as Crunch captain Connor Lovie blasted one past Masternak eight and a half minutes into the session to round out the night’s scoring.
Kyle Herbster supplied a pair of assists to bolster the Cochrane cause.
Taylor Unruh made 23 saves to record the win for the Crunch.
Jackson suffered the loss for the Rock giving up four against on 18 shots while Masternak kicked out 19 of 20 in over 35 minutes of relief.
