COCHRANE, Ont. – The Soo Eagles saw Nolan Hendry tally twice, including collecting the game-winner, as part of a 3-2 win over the Cochrane Crunch Saturday in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League contest at Tim Horton Event Centre.
A solid start for the hometown Crunch saw then open the scoring 1:44 into the proceedings when a persistent Jonathan Hutorsky knocked in a loose puck in front of the net under Sault Ste. Marie starter Reid Ramsay.
Answering with an equalizer just past the 11-minute mark, the Eagles’ Bryce Grandboise collected a turnover and put a backhand into the slot where a waiting Hendry whipped in a one-timer into the right corner by Cochrane netminder Jake Dubinsky.
Staying that way until the final moments of the second period, the Soo got a buzzer-beater from Chase Tallaire who buried a rebound into the open side on a late power play, a fraction before the horn sounded.
Third period play saw the Eagles add some insurance at 8:14 off a three-on-two rush and saw Tallaire make a nice back pass over to a hard-charging Hendry in the slot where he fired his second of the night past the blocker of Dubinsky.
Getting closer, Liam Boswell picked up his seventh of the season with five and a half minutes remaining as he made a power move out from the boards and side-stepped a couple of defenders before ripping one in from the right side.
However, the Soo held firm from there the rest of the way to skate away with the positive result.
Ramsay has now picked up a triumph in each of his past four starts as part of the victory.
