Crunch stay lone unbeaten club with win over Rapids

NOELVILLE, Ont. – The Cochrane Crunch remained the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s lone unbeaten team after breaking open a tie game early in the second period en route to a 10-5 over the French River Rapids Sunday evening at Noelville Arena.

Caleb Rich’s third of the season put French River in front at 6:29 of the opening frame only to see Cochrane’s Kyle Herbster notch his third of the campaign six minutes later to level the proceedings.

The Crunch then took the lead before the period was complete during a man advantage opportunity as Rory Milne collected his second NOJHL marker.

Action in the middle stanza saw the Rapids tie 43 seconds in as Drew Tobobandung buried his first of the season during an early power play.

Cochrane went back on top a couple shifts later however when Austin Whelan collected his initial league tally at 2:04.

The visitors then broke it open from there notching four more markers in the period to go up 7-2 after 40 minutes.

Konnar Dechaine started the onslaught at 7:35, which was followed by later goals courtesy of Leejay Meguinis, Brandon McReynolds and Arshia Mitchell.

Rich picked up his second of the night and fourth overall via the power play at 1:48 of the third only to see Cooper Schroder strike twice for the Crunch.

Gregory Trudeau then sandwiched a pair for French River around one from Darian Harris of Cochrane to round out the scoring.

A well-balanced attack saw 13 different Crunch skaters pickup at least one point in the victory.

Christian Gaudreau had three assists for the Rapids.

Cochrane moved to 4-0-0-0 with the triumph and outshot French River 63-24 on the night.

Eric Vanblarcom picked up the win and Scott Adams suffered the loss for the 0-5-0-0 Rapids.
