Cochrane’s Williams blanks French River
COCHRANE, Ont. – Leighton Williams stopped all 25 shots he faced to post his first Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League shutout as the Cochrane Crunch went on to score seven times in the third period in humbling the French River Rapids 11-0 Friday at Tim Horton Event Centre.
The Crunch got off to a good start for Williams by scoring three times in the opening period on markers by Darian Harris, Bailey Shaver and Konnar Dechaine.
A man advantage marker accounted for the lone tally in the middle session as Justin Hess connected on the power play for Cochrane at 8:50.
The home side then broke the game open in the third to win going away.
Joseph Thielen had a pair of goals from the Crunch in the frame while Kyle Herbster, Nate Viberg, Nicolas Flanders, Hess and Shaver were the other marksmen.
Braeden Cross dished out four assists in the one-side decision for Cochrane with Thielen also adding a pair of helpers for a four-point night of his own.
Rapids netminder Scott Adams faced 51 shots in defeat for French River.
