Cochrane’s Atchison named CJHL Central all-star

SUDBURY, Ont. – The Canadian Junior Hockey League announced Wednesday that Cochrane Crunch centre Hunter Atchison has been named to the CJHL Central all-star team for his efforts during the course of the 2015-16 season.

The honourees were chosen from the Northern Ontario Hockey League (NOJHL), Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) and Superior International Junior Hockey League (SIJHL) and are selected from the nominees submitted for the CJHL National Awards, including Most Valuable Player, Top Forward, Top Defenseman and Top Goaltender.

The 19-year-old native of Victoria, B.C. was named NOJHL MVP as well as a CCM Hockey first team all-star in league play.

Atchison led the NOJHL in point-per-game average this season at 1.87 and finished second overall in points with 99, just one back of the leader.

His 50 goals were the second highest in the NOJHL, again just one back of the league front runner while finishing second in power play tallies with 12.

The Crunch forward also led the NOJHL in shorthanded markers with 11.

Atchison was earlier named CJHL first star of the month for September.

He was one of two players with a five-goal game this season and was a member of Team NOJHL at the Eastern Canada Cup Challenge.
