POWASSAN, Ont. – The Powassan Voodoos picked up three assists from David Campbell while Ryan Mills notched his first career hat trick to help propel them to a 7-3 triumph over the Cochrane Crunch Monday evening in a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League East Division affair at the Powassan Sportsplex.
It was the hometown Voodoos that commenced the scoring in the contest when Carson Lux collected his second of the campaign at 4:13 with Campbell and Gabienen Kioki both picking up their ninth helpers of 2018-19.
Heading into the middle session, Cochrane drew level 1:41 into the stanza on a Jacob Stos effort only to see the Voodoos come right back just 20 seconds later to regain the lead thanks to Matthew Hardwick.
The early offensive barrage continued with Powassan adding another on the next shift with Mills notching his fourth, but the Crunch moved back to within one at 4:11 as Seiji Martone securing his second overall.
Another quick connection in the third saw the Voodoos extend their cushion as Campbell fed Kioki for his sixth at 2:27.
Kioki then struck again a couple of shifts later for his third point of the evening and seventh tally overall provided some insurance.
Ryan Mooney brought the Crunch closer with eight minutes to go, but Mills helped secure the decision with two late markers, including a shorthanded goal into an empty net, to complete the night’s scoring.
Cade Herd had an assist in the match-up for Powassan as he extended a point streak to five.
Voodoos’ starter Christian Cicigoi finished with 29 stops to record the win while Cochrane netminder Zach Wickson faced 31 attempts in defeat.
With the outcome Powassan won for a third straight outing improving to 13-6-1-0 while the Crunch saw a five-game winning streak end as they slipped to 10-8-0-1.
